Setting
In my classroom I wanted to create a classroom that children would be most comfortable in. With different learning styles of students in mind I put two sound proof rooms in my classroom so children who need a quiet environment may have one. The sound proof rooms are set up differently one with desks and chairs and the other with bean-bag chairs; this way a child has an environment that is most comfortable and or suitable for what they are working on. Moving to the main classroom I put tables, an area to play, and a rug to gather together. I have also provided the students with toys to play with and books to read. Other things in the classroom such as the television, chalk board, and smart board are resources I can use to help teach a lesson.
Instructional Glimpse
A typical day in the Creative Minds Preschool would start off by the children coming in and hanging up their coats and backpacks in the hallway. Then the children would come in the classroom and play for about ten to fifteen minutes or until everyone arrives. Next, everyone would come together and sit on the rug for story time. The book usually has to do with what we will be learning that day in the classroom. For example, if we are learning about animal habitats we would read a book on an animal that interested the students. After we read the book I like to give them an activity that deals with vocabulary related to what we are learning. We might give them a matching game of vocab. words or visual aids to help teach them the new terms. While learning these new terms we incorporate them with the book or real life. If the book was about frogs then some key terms would be pond, habitat, tadpole, and cattails. The last part of the day we separate into groups of snack, arts & crafts, or library. The groups switch after fifteen minutes and once again we use the theme of the day to influence our snacks, arts &crafts, and book choice. When the day is done we sit and reflect on what we have learned.
